DC National Guard Fields New Technology to Transform Soldier Processing for 60th Presidential Inauguration, Future JRSOI Operations

Service members of the District of Columbia Army National Guard, 74th Troop Command, attached to the Joint Task Force-District of Columbia (JTF-DC) return to the D.C Armory to out-processing through Joint Reception, Staging, Onward Movement and Integration after the 60th Presidential Inauguration at the D.C. Armory in Washington, D.C., Jan. 21, 2025.  Approximately 8,000 National Guard service members from approximately 40 states and territories comprise JTF-DC to support the 60th Presidential Inauguration, continuing a legacy that began in 1789 when their predecessors escorted George Washington to the first inauguration. At the request of civil authorities, these National Guard service members provide critical support such as crowd management, traffic control points, CBRN response, civil disturbance response and sustainment operations. Their expertise and seamless collaboration with interagency partners help ensure a safe and peaceful transition of power during this historic event.

The District of Columbia National Guard’s Maj. Gen. John C. Andonie, Commanding General (Interim), swore in U.S. Army Master Sergeant Armando Leon as Assistant Inspector General during a ceremony on March 9, following his completion of the U.S. Army Inspector General School. Leon is the first Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) to join the office, reflecting recent force structure reforms and a renewed command focus on readiness and care for Soldiers and Airmen.

257th Army Band Members Win Army Bands Reserve Component Soldier and Junior NCO of the Year

U.S. Army Spc. Victor Souza and Sgt. Victoria Golding, members of the 257th Army Band, District of Columbia National Guard, were chosen as the Army Bands Reserve Component Soldier of the Year (Souza), and Reserve Component Junior NCO of the Year (Golding) for 2024. They were chosen out of all Reserve and National Guard Soldiers for their contributions to the unit, the organization, and the entire Army Band component for exceptional dedication, leadership, and performance throughout the year.

U.S. Army Spc. Ruth Arias, a military police officer with the 273rd Military Police Company, D.C. National Guard, was recognized by SEA John T. Raines III, Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chief, National Guard Bureau, for utilizing Army Combat Lifesaver Course training during a vehicle accident near Annapolis, Md, on Jan. 27, 2025. Together with a bystander, she removed an injured teen from a vehicle, whose injuries included severe bleeding and chest pain, and provided critical aid until emergency responders arrived.
