The District of Columbia National Guard and the Association of the Oldest Inhabitants of D.C. host a ceremony to honor the 499 D.C. residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice during World War I and commemorate the centennial of Armistice Day, Nov. 11, 2018 at the D.C. War Memorial in Washington D.C. Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D.C.; Phil Mendelson, chairman, D.C. Council; Maj. Gen. William J. Walker, commanding general, D.C. Lt. Col. Eric Swanson, commander of the 113th Civil Engineer Squadron, District of Columbia Air National Guard, greets Jim Pettit, U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, during the ambassador's visit to two schools civil engineers renovated as part of a humanitarian civic assistance mission. Since, 1997 the European Command (EUCOM) in cooperation with the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) has invested $15 million into similar projects (i.e. schools and clinics) alone in Moldova.
