Brig. Gen. Robert D. Bowie, Special Assistant to the Director of the Air National Guard, was awarded the Legion of Merit Award for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as the Deputy Director of Joint Force, Joint Force Headquarters, District of Columbia Air National Guard, District of Columbia, Armory, from 31 January 2019 to 07 June 2020. 

During this period, then-Colonel Bowie, was responsible for development, execution and evaluation of Joint Staff programs, as well as advising the Director of Joint Staff, The Adjutant General and Commanding General on joint objectives. He also managed Weapons of Mass Destruction Civil Support Team, orchestrated the Armory’s strategic 2025 construction plan with the Jacobs Construction Corporation and was a driving-force behind the Joint Staff’s success in Joint Task Force COVID-19 and Joint Task Force Capital Guardian missions.

U.S. Soldiers from the Alabama Army National Guard arrive at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland, to support the Joint Task Force–District of Columbia’s security mission in Southeast D.C. with foot patrols and medic support. About 2,300 National Guard members are supporting the D.C. Safe and Beautiful mission providing critical support to the D.C.
