Major General John C. Andonie

Commanding General

Maj. Gen. John C. Andonie is the Commanding General (Interim), District of Columbia National Guard. As Commanding General, he is responsible for the strategic leadership, training, readiness, operational employment and performance of the Army and Air Force components of the D.C. National Guard. General Andonie oversees Joint Force Headquarters-Air, which includes the 113th Wing's F-16 Fighting Falcon that secures the skies over the Nation’s Capital and C-40 Clipper that transports members of Congress and other dignitaries globally. He also oversees the Land Component Command, which includes the 74th Troop Command, 260th Regiment (Regional Training Institute), the 1-224th Aviation Security and Support Battalion, and the 1-226th General Support Aviation Battalion, which consists of the UH-60 Black Hawk, UH-72 Lakota and the C-26 Metroliner.

General Andonie began his military career receiving a commission from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York. He has commanded units at the battalion and company levels. Prior to his current assignment he served as Deputy Director, Army National Guard, National Guard Bureau.

CIVILIAN OCCUPATION
Served as the Director, Joint Staff for the New York National Guard, Latham, New York. His responsibilities included development and implementation of State strategy, policy, plans, initiatives and concepts related to command, control, operation and management of joint functions of the JFHQ and domestic operations; the State Partnership Program; federal and state homeland security programs; interagency and intergovernmental coordination; and civil support. In New York State this includes the direction and management of Homeland Response Force, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Task Forces, as well as Civil Support Teams, the Counterdrug Task Force, and Joint Task Force Empire Shield, which maintains more than 750 Soldiers and Airmen on State Active Duty to provide security at major ports, terminals and transportation hubs in and around New York City.
