WASHINGTON –
In anticipation of the 2024 Army-Navy football game at Northwest Stadium on Dec. 14, the D.C. National Guard’s senior leaders collaborated on a light-hearted spirit video. The video features Maj. Gen. John C. Andonie, Commanding General (Interim), and Brig. Gen. Craig. M. Maceri, Land Component Command commander. Maj. Gen. Andonie graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1989, and Brig. Gen. Maceri graduated in 1996.
The spirit video was filmed at Davison Army Airfield, home of the D.C. Army Aviation Command, and on location at the D.C. Armory and Joint Base Andrews. The scene opens with both generals receiving an alert that it’s the appropriate time to execute a military mission: To capture ‘Bill the Goat,’ the Navy team’s official mascot from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. The end scene features the D.C. National Guard’s UH-72 Lakota helicopter arriving back to base with the goat under the capture of the general. He then says: “Hey, Navy! We have your goat! Go Army, beat Navy!”
The video script was written by Lt. Col. Ryan Rooks, State Aviation Officer and filmed/edited by Master Sgt. Arthur M. Wright, State Public Affairs Officer. The goat is owned by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Corey Hannon, whose family farm is located in Charlestown, WV. Hannon had his parents transport the two goats (one primary and alternate) for the filming.
“The spirit video honors our senior leaders and recognizes the significance of one of the most highly anticipated games happening in our backyard,” said Lt. Col. Rooks. “The D.C. National Guard is part of the community and civic engagement is a win-win for both the National Guard and our communities.”
