Capital Guardians leaders join with leadership at National Guard Bureau and across the Department of Defense to celebrate Juneteenth! Juneteenth became a federal holiday in 2021. It marks the occasion in 1868 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to take control of the state and ensure that all enslaved people would be freed. As part of the celebration, DCNG has made Friday, June 17, 2022, Family Day to allow all our service members to spend much-deserved time with their friends, families, and community. It provides an added opportunity to reflect on this very meaningful federal holiday.
