J2, Director of Intelligence and Cyber
Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Burke serves as the J2, Director of Intelligence and Cyber, District of Columbia National Guard.
Lieutenant Colonel Burke is responsible for intelligence support to the Commanding General, D.C. National Guard and the Commanding General, Land Component Commander in support of military and domestic operations, to include crisis, strategic and indications and warning intelligence. He coordinates with National Guard, active-duty Army and other service military intelligence elements, as well as district, defense, and federal agencies in the National Capitol Region and beyond, to provide timely, relevant and accurate incident awareness and assessment to the command.
Lieutenant Colonel Burke joined the D.C. National Guard in 2005. His prior leadership assignments include the Multi-Agency Augmentation Command, 221st Military Intelligence Battalion, Georgia Army National Guard, 513th Military Intelligence Brigade, 1/6 and 1/9 Infantry Battalions, Simultaneous Membership Program Cadet, Wyoming Army National Guard, and the 126th Military Intelligence Battalion, U.S. Army Reserve. During his more than 33 years of service, Lieutenant Colonel Burke has held command and staff positions in platoon, company, battalion and brigade sized units. He has deployed to Afghanistan, Albania, Djibouti and Iraqi, with overseas tours as an infantry officer in Germany and South Korea. A career military intelligence officer, he is also a senior civilian intelligence officer with the Defense Intelligence Agency.
Lieutenant Colonel Burke is currently a resident student at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa., working towards a Master of Science in Security Strategy. He was selected for the Advanced Strategic Arts Program and will earn the additional skill identifier for strategic advisor. Lieutenant Colonel Burke holds a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence Studies from the National Intelligence University, Bethesda, Md. He is a distinguished military graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyo., where he earned a Master of Science in International Studies. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Mass. Lieutenant Colonel Burke’s military training includes the Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and Intelligence Advance Course, Counterintelligence Officers Course, Infantry Basic Course, Mortar Leaders Course, Defense Support to Civil Authorities, Joint Staff Training Course, Joint Domestic Operations Course, National Senior Intelligence Course, Intelligence Planners Course, and the Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course.
Lieutenant Colonel Burke’s awards include the Combat Action Badge, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one campaign star, Iraq Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, NATO Medal, Joint Staff Identification Badge, Expert Infantry Badge, Airborne and Air Assault Badges and the German Performance Badge.
