Command Sergeant Major Terrance A. Smith

Command Sergeant Major, Land Component Command

 Command Sergeant Major Terrance A. Smith serves as the Land Component Command Sergeant Major for the District of Columbia Army National Guard. He joined the District of Columbia National Guard in July 1991 and attended Basic Combat Training at Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., and attended advance individual training at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md. as a Small Arms Repairer.

Command Sgt. Maj. Smith’s leadership positions include Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, Command Sergeant, Drug Demand Reduction Administrator, and Counter Drug Coordinator for the District of Columbia National Guard.

His civilian education includes attendance at the University of Maryland University College receiving an Associates of Arts in General Studies, the University of Maryland University College, graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Homeland Security, and Georgetown University earning his Master’s Degree in Executive Management of Leadership.

His military education includes the U.S. Army Equal Employment Opportunity Course, Senior Leaders Course 91/94 Ordnance, Counter Radio Improvised Explosive Device Controlled Warfare Course, Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Course Phase 1, Basic Non Commissioned Officers Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Alcohol and Drug Prevention Course, Criminal Photo Forensics Course, 5A Counter Drug Operations Course, Criminal Intelligence Analyst Course, Unit Prevention Leaders Course, Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Training, Unit Retention Managers Course, Hazardous Material Course, Reenlistment Course, Counter-drug Gang Intelligence Course, Senior Enlisted Joint Prof Military Education Course, U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy,  Nominative Leader Course, and U.S. Army War College.

Command Sgt. Maj. Smith’s mobilizations and deployments include Operation Noble Eagle/Enduring Freedom Ft. Dix, N.J. in 2003 and Operation Enduring Freedom, Joint Base Balad, Iraq in 2011.

Command Sgt. Maj.  Smith’s significant awards include the Army Superior Unit Award, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal with service star, Iraqi Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M device and two mobilizations, Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with the numeral six, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Overseas Training Ribbon with number two, District of Columbia Emergency Service Ribbon, and the 2010 Command Sergeant Major William G. Mathews Jr., Non Commissioned Officer Leadership Award.
