MacDonald Named Air National Guard’s 113th Wing Commander

Col. Keith G. MacDonald has been named as the next commander for the 113th Wing, District of Columbia Air National Guard, and will assume command on Sept. 15. He is currently the Vice Commander of the Air National Guard Readiness Center, Joint Base Andrews, Md.   
 

“Keith is the right leader at the right time to take command of one of the busiest and most critical Air National Guard Wings,” said Maj .Gen. William J. Walker, Commanding General, District of Columbia National Guard.  “I have no doubt Keith will lead the 113th Wing to new heights and continue the legacy of protecting the Capital and defending the nation, as the D.C. Guard has done since 1802.”

 

MacDonald is a combat veteran with more than 26 years of distinguished service. He commissioned in 1991 as a distinguished graduate from the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at Miami University of Ohio. Following undergraduate pilot training where he was a distinguished graduate in 1993, he served on active duty for nine years flying the A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft. MacDonald joined the Air National Guard in 2001 as an A-10 instructor pilot. He has numerous accolades during his Air National Guard career, including serving in combat Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM.  Additionally, he graduated from Naval War College, Newport, R.I. in 2012, earning a Masters of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.

 

“It is an honor and a privilege to have been selected to lead this amazing team of Airmen,” said MacDonald. “We will continue to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, readiness, and excellence that has been the benchmark of the District of Columbia National Guard.”

 

MacDonald assumes command from Brig. Gen. Jeffrey C. Bozard who relinquished command of the 113th Wing on August 31, 2018. Bozard, assumed command of the 113th Wing in August 2016 and will retire with over 28 years of dedicated service.

 

With more than 1,200 Airmen, the 113th Wing, known as the “Capital Guardians”, provides air sovereignty alert forces to defend the Nation's Capital 24/7, 365 days a year while providing fighter aircraft, VIP airlift, and support forces capable of local, national and global employment.
